Good Morning BRICKK family! ☀️Happy New Year!
I usually do a post on New Years and come here with some thoughts.... this year I took some time off grid to work on making memories with my boys. Slowing down for a minute to enjoy time with them, listen to my oldest and his dreams, snuggles with my youngest and made some amazing memories and moments along the way!
2019 was a year of splashing around trying to figure out how to keep BRICKK alive. Praying but not really listening to where I was being led. Now Sitting back I can SEE more clearly. I am in the business of helping to change lives, spreading light and love. So many don’t see the struggles that go into making a dream a reality not only for yourself but for anyone that comes to you for help. The day to day trying to survive. The sleepless nights, the worry, the stress. We have some AMAZING people that have stuck with us on this roller coaster ride and I am sooo thankful! Thankful that you SEE my heart and the heart of BRICKK! It is there for YOU and anyone that needs a shelter from the storm for just a minute! I so appreciate everyone that walks thru those red doors! You all keep each other’s dreams ALIVE by supporting US! I thank you!!!❤️☀️
2020 what will it bring for us??? Daring GREATLY! Choosing Courage over Comfort, A NEW lane! One I have been searching for since I opened those red doors. Trying to make everyone else happy and not making yourself a priority doesn’t work and I failed! Failed miserably actually! So now it’s our vision on the table, the best thing for myself, my boys and everyone that loves BRICKK!
Keeping the ones fulfilled that strive to make BRICKK the best it can be! The lounge ladies are the heart of BRICKK, they make you smile, give hugs when needed, and no matter their day wear a smile for you! They know my vision and the nail it everytime! Thank you ladies!! Thank You!
Coming soon is the Youth kids boxing program once again! (See earlier post for details) That is our lane, that is all we do!
Years ago one of my best friends, Tony Greer, brought boxing to a little town called Alma. His vision was to spread the love of boxing to ALL! That someone would use it to change lives! Just see the good in his love of the sport! That is what we are set to do! Change some youth lives with boxing! I know it changed mine! In the course of making this reality, Gilbert Silva Rosas, walked into BRICKK to train with his son. A blessing in disguise, a door opened for the youth in our community. A prayer answered, more help so we can reach more youth!
We have excellent trainers at BRICKK working with our youth and exciting things are coming! As much as floundering sucked the air out of me, finding a lane restored my breath! The youth is where it is at for us! Making them confident and showing them our love of BOXING! Our sights are set on getting Gilbert Rosas in the ring and letting our youth cheer him on! 2020 is a year of change! Stand still and listen, you will figure out what is truly important as God guides your path! Fear is a liar!
Happy New Year everyone and thanks for reading! There will be haters, there will be talk! That is ok because as long as your heart is set on truth and your path is written, God will fight for you every step of the way, Faith, Trust!
What matters is that the ones who we set out to help, reach their fullest potential as little human beings! Having someone believe in them and teach them that they have wings is all that matters to us now! Thanks to those that love BRICKK and all we stand for! Our values and morals will not change to try and fit in with the masses! We will stick to what we know and spread as much love and light as we can!
We are chasing the sun, we are chasing dreams!!
Peace Today and Always-
Stay Tuned......exciting things happening soon!
Learning, growing, and spreading our love to others in hopes of making a POSITIVE change everyday!👊🏼💪🏻🥊
It is SO HARD to eat healthy during the holidays...so many parties & extra activities...and while all of these extras are fun, they tend to wreak havoc on our bodies...IF we LET them! The goal is to not let the holiday parties get the best of us! One way to help with this is to take a healthy dish to pass to a party...think of what YOU need to fit into your meal plan for the day (and what you will be eating the rest of the day) and then incorporate the foods you need into your dish to pass. Short on veggies? Take a big salad, fresh veggies and dip or even a veggie casserole. Need to incorporate fruit into your day? Try a fruit salad, or fresh fruit tray.
Remember that if YOU are having trouble eating healthy, chances are other are struggling as well, and they will also appreciate the healthy choice that you brought to the party...and if they don't, who cares? Remember that your focus in eating is to FUEL yourself the best you possibly can!
I can't tell you how many times I've heard people say "I have a party tonight so I'm not going to eat anything until tonight...I'm saving my calories for________." This is NOT the best choice!!! "Saving calories" typically results in: fatigue throughout the day, irritability throughout the day, poor choices when you finally do eat, and overeating...which leads to feeling uncomfortable, stuffed, and regretful feelings about what you ate. I encouraged you to consider a new way of holiday eating when you have a special occasion/holiday party/celebration....
Aim to eat a well balanced meal plan throughout the day...if you plan on splurging a bit on something special that you love, aim to cut back on portions throughout the day, but DO NOT starve yourself through the day. Think ahead about what you really want to eat, and have a plan going into the special occasion as to what you plan to eat. Doing this will help you to feel better throughout the day, and will help you feel better when you are eating at your party as well. In addition to FEELING better (this is the goal, right?) your body will also FUNCTION better!!!
I switched to greek yogurt several years ago when I realized how much protein there was in it compared to regular yogurt... I started buying the individual cups with flavors and found that in addition to having more protein they were thicker and creamier. For some people this takes time to get used to (the change in texture) I liked it better and my family enjoyed it (didn't complain about it- my kids love it and will eat it plain too).
I like to experiment when cooking, so I eventually bought a big container of non fat plain Greek yogurt because I had read somewhere that it could be a substitute for sour cream. So, I started using it in different recipes that called for sour cream. It seemed to work well and nobody noticed the difference. I used it in place of sour cream in Christmas sugar cookies...it worked out GREAT! I even started using it on tacos instead of sour cream. Now a staple in our fridge is non fat Greek yogurt and I rarely buy sour cream.
One of my favorite times of day to exercise is in the morning...IF I can pull myself out of bed! There are SO many great things about working out in the morning- a few things I notice about the days I do workout in the morning: I drink less coffee in the morning, I FEEL better in the morning, I am more productive throughout the entire day, I have more energy, and when I workout in the morning LIFE doesn't get in the way of my workout.
While the benefits of exercising in the morning are great, it is HARD some days to get out of bed, so my goal is always to make my mornings as easy as possible- this means I get as much of my stuff ready the night before as possible to help my mornings go smoothly.
Exercise has been a part of my morning off and on for YEARS and it is still hard on some days for me to get out of bed, however I ALWAYS am grateful on the days I do my workout early. I also do allow myself to sleep in when I feel I need extra rest!
If you have not been a morning exerciser and want to become one, don't worry...you absolutely CAN become a morning exerciser! Remember to start with SMALL achievable morning exercise goals. Start with 10-20 minutes in the morning and when you are consistently able to achieve that amount of time, then work on adding 5-10 more minutes to your morning workout.
I would love to hear what your morning exercise tips are :)
Happy (morning) exercising!
We all know that life is BUSY... so I aim to save time any way that I can. Every time I cook chicken I buy A LOT of it, cook it, freeze it and then I have it available for times I need a quick meal- it is a great addition to salads, wraps or sandwiches, or can be used in casseroles, soups, or stir fry. I also started using it recently when I make breakfast sandwiches!
Getting in water is a struggle for most of us...some days I do a great job getting mine in, and others I struggle with it too. When I'm at work I find it is actually easier to get my water in, because I'm often at my computer and have my water sitting right at my desk. However when I'm at home I'm running around doing things... and don't always bring my water bottle with me everywhere I go. I've made it a habit to grab a water bottle when I walk out the door and almost ALWAYS have it with me when I'm on the go...if I don't have it I feel lost!!! A few of my favorite bottles to use are camelback and contigo because I can easily find 32oz bottles in these brands. The fewer times I have to fill my bottle the more successful I am at getting my water in through the day. I encourage you to try to work at always carrying a water bottle with you, if you keep taking it everywhere you're bound to start increasing your water intake!
