One of my favorite times of day to exercise is in the morning...IF I can pull myself out of bed! There are SO many great things about working out in the morning- a few things I notice about the days I do workout in the morning: I drink less coffee in the morning, I FEEL better in the morning, I am more productive throughout the entire day, I have more energy, and when I workout in the morning LIFE doesn't get in the way of my workout.
While the benefits of exercising in the morning are great, it is HARD some days to get out of bed, so my goal is always to make my mornings as easy as possible- this means I get as much of my stuff ready the night before as possible to help my mornings go smoothly. Exercise has been a part of my morning off and on for YEARS and it is still hard on some days for me to get out of bed, however I ALWAYS am grateful on the days I do my workout early. I also do allow myself to sleep in when I feel I need extra rest! If you have not been a morning exerciser and want to become one, don't worry...you absolutely CAN become a morning exerciser! Remember to start with SMALL achievable morning exercise goals. Start with 10-20 minutes in the morning and when you are consistently able to achieve that amount of time, then work on adding 5-10 more minutes to your morning workout. I would love to hear what your morning exercise tips are :) Happy (morning) exercising! -Sara

We all know that life is BUSY... so I aim to save time any way that I can. Every time I cook chicken I buy A LOT of it, cook it, freeze it and then I have it available for times I need a quick meal- it is a great addition to salads, wraps or sandwiches, or can be used in casseroles, soups, or stir fry. I also started using it recently when I make breakfast sandwiches!
-Sara Getting in water is a struggle for most of us...some days I do a great job getting mine in, and others I struggle with it too. When I'm at work I find it is actually easier to get my water in, because I'm often at my computer and have my water sitting right at my desk. However when I'm at home I'm running around doing things... and don't always bring my water bottle with me everywhere I go. I've made it a habit to grab a water bottle when I walk out the door and almost ALWAYS have it with me when I'm on the go...if I don't have it I feel lost!!! A few of my favorite bottles to use are camelback and contigo because I can easily find 32oz bottles in these brands. The fewer times I have to fill my bottle the more successful I am at getting my water in through the day. I encourage you to try to work at always carrying a water bottle with you, if you keep taking it everywhere you're bound to start increasing your water intake!
-Sara If we don't pay attention to our bodies we can get our signals crossed...sometimes we think we're hungry, but really might just be thirsty, or maybe we're feeling something else. When you feel hungry ask yourself, when was the last time I ate? If it was within an hour or 2, chances are you're not actually hungry...you could be bored, anxious, stressed, or thirsty. If you determine that you're not hungry, ask yourself next "how much water have I had to drink today?" A large part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle is checking in with yourself regularly...multiple times a day, to determine what your body (and mind) needs. We get so wrapped up in "all the things" that we forget to assess what our bodies actually need to function well.
Take time to listen to the signals your body provides :) -Sara Happy Halloween!
Welcome to BRICKK Thoughts, Tips & Tools for a Healthy Lifestyle! This is a new section on our website...I have been debating on adding it for awhile...basically since I created our website a few years ago...and now I'm finally doing it.... I am a bit nervous...because let's face it anything new can be a bit nerve-racking. Along with the nerves, I'm also excited to be sharing BRICKKtips, some of my thoughts (and possibly some of Kathy's thoughts from time to time- she is the founder and owner of BRICKK, and THE reason I am able to bring this information to you!) and also tools that I find helpful on a healthy lifestyle journey. Who am I? My name is Sara Krebs- I am the marketing coordinator at BRICKK, I see weight management clients, I occasionally work in the kitchen at the Smoothie Lounge. If you take a peek at our Weight Management page you can learn a bit more about me and my views on a healthy lifestyle. A few more things about me... -I love to make things...anything from crocheted hats to a coffee table...I like to keep busy doing "crafty things." -I love to exercise - I'm a certified group fitness instructor, but also love to hop on an elliptical, bike, or treadmill, use free weights, or go for a hike, rollerblading or bike ride to get in a workout. -I love to cook! Since the weather is getting colder I am excited to start making soups again...soup is my FAVORITE thing to make in the fall and winter months. -I love to spend time with my family outside...one of my favorite places to be in the summer is in my garden teaching my kiddos how to grow FRESH FOOD! -I developed and implemented a Weight Management Program at a health system and worked as a coordinator of that program for several years. I learned SO MUCH from making this program and meeting with my patients...I want to keep sharing this knowledge. I am SO very grateful to be a part of BRICKK where I have the freedom and ability to do just that! We introduced BRICKKtips this weekend on facebook and instagram! BRICKKtips will be one item that we will include on this blog- we hope that you enjoy the first one and come back to see additional BRICKKtips soon! BRICKKtips are new...we hope that you enjoy each BRICKKtip and consider how it might fit into your healthy lifestyle journey. If you find the tip useful, we encourage you to try working the idea into your routine! Please let us know if the BRICKKtip has helped you to make a positive change in your life!!!
